Viega Sanpress Inox: the all-stainless system – 15 to 108 mm

Sanpress Inox is stainless steel from the riser to the draw-off point: press connectors in 1.4401, pipe in 1.4401 or 1.4521, EPDM sealing element with SC-Contur. It is the Viega system for drinking water with the highest hygiene requirements and at the same time the industrial system for special media – with the variants Inox G for gas and heating oil and LF for oxygen. This page explains pipe, sizes, availability, variants, media and how it differs from Sanpress, Temponox and NiroSan.

What Sanpress Inox is meant for

Two worlds in one system: in the drinking water installation Sanpress Inox is the choice when stainless steel is required throughout – hospitals, laboratories, food businesses, public buildings. In industry it is the metal system with the broadest media list: heating and cooling water, antifreeze and heat transfer fluids, compressed air, technical gases, treated water, with FKM also district heating, low-pressure steam and oils. What Viega excludes: product pipelines of the food industry and water for pharmaceutical production or injection purposes – other codes apply there.

The connector in 1.4401 makes the difference from Sanpress: no copper alloy in the system, hence no question of lead or copper release and no restriction with special media that attack gunmetal.

How the joint works

Cut the pipe to length, deburr, mark the insertion depth, push on, press: up to 54 mm with press jaw, in the XL sizes 76.1, 88.9 and 108 mm with press ring and hinged adapter jaw. The EPDM sealing element is fitted at the factory; outside the drinking water installation it can be replaced on site by an FKM sealing element for higher temperatures – after consulting the Viega Service Center.

The press connector carries the SC-Contur: in the unpressed state the joint is necessarily leaking during the leak test (wet 1.0–6.5 bar, dry 22 mbar–3.0 bar). A forgotten press operation therefore shows up before the installation goes into operation – provided it is tested. How the principle works is explained on the overview page and under leak testing and SC-Contur.

Pipe, sizes and availability

The pipe is the Sanpress pipe 1.4401 or 1.4521 – identical with that of Sanpress. The table shows the sizes: 15 to 54 mm we carry from stock, the XL sizes are to order.

Sanpress Inox, Inox G and LF

  • Sanpress Inox (EPDM): drinking water, heating/cooling, special media. 15–108 mm.
  • Sanpress Inox G (HNBR, yellow): natural gas and LPG to G 260 with MOP 5, hydrogen, technical gases, in 15–54 mm also heating oil and diesel fuel (DVGW G 5614, TRGI). Not for drinking water. 15–108 mm. From stock.
  • Sanpress Inox LF (free of paint-wetting impairment substances): connectors for oxygen (TÜV Rheinland report, 15–54 mm) and paint shops. On request.

The variants share profile, tool and pipe; the components are separated by marking and are not mixed.

Which medium with which sealing element

Assignment after the Viega media list (11/2025) and the planning manual (08/2026). District heating, solar and low-pressure steam are marked “conditionally”: they work with FKM sealing element after consultation – with the limits 140 °C / 16 bar (district heating) and 120 °C / 0.1 MPa (steam).

Transitions: flange, thread, Sanpress, Megapress

Flange transitions (loose and fixed flanges to EN 1092-1), threaded transitions to EN 10226-1 and transitions to Sanpress gunmetal belong to the range. To the thick-walled steel pipeline with Megapress the way leads via thread or flange; at the transition to galvanised steel an insulating union is to be provided (mixed installation).

Sanpress Inox, Sanpress, Temponox or NiroSan?

Sanpress: same pipe, gunmetal connectors, more economical, for drinking water and mixed installation. Temponox: connectors 1.4301 on pipe 1.4520, heating/cooling only, no drinking water approval, brown marking – the economical stainless steel choice for the closed circuit. Sanha NiroSan: connectors 1.4404, pipes 1.4404/1.4521, up to 168.3 mm, own profile, likewise stocked by us – the choice between Sanpress Inox and NiroSan is usually a question of size (above 108 mm only NiroSan) and of the tools at hand.

Installation in brief

  • Cut with pipe cutter or fine-toothed saw, deburr, no cutting disc; no contact with carbon steel tools (rust contamination).
  • Mark the insertion depth, push on, press – XL only with press ring and hinged adapter jaw.
  • Leak test, record; for drinking water flushing and commissioning after VDI/DVGW 6023.
  • Take up the thermal expansion of stainless steel (approx. 1.6 mm per m and 100 K) with fixed and sliding points; clamps with sound insulation insert.

Frequently asked questions about Viega Sanpress Inox

When Sanpress Inox instead of Sanpress?

When the whole system is to be stainless steel: with high hygiene requirements, with special media that attack copper alloys, or when the specification demands “stainless steel throughout”. For the normal drinking water installation and the mixed installation Sanpress suffices.

Does Sanpress Inox work for district heating?

Yes, with FKM sealing element after consulting Viega: up to 140 °C and 16 bar (planning manual). With the standard EPDM the heating limit of 105 °C applies.

Can I carry heating oil with Sanpress Inox G?

Yes, in 15–54 mm: heating oil to DIN 51603-1 and diesel to EN 590 up to 0.5 MPa and 40 °C (media list). Beyond that only after consultation.

What does LF mean?

Free of paint-wetting impairment substances: connectors for oxygen lines (TÜV Rheinland report for 15–54 mm) and paint shops. On request.

Do my Sanpress press jaws fit?

Yes – Sanpress, Sanpress Inox, Profipress and Temponox use the SC-Contur and the same Viega press jaws and press rings. Only tools may be shared, not the components.
