Geberit FlowFit: pressing from the side – d16 to d75 with two jaws
FlowFit is Geberit's latest multilayer pipe system and different from all others in one respect: the press jaw engages from the side, not from the front. That allows pressing in tight installation positions, a rotatable press point, an inspection window for the insertion depth and only two jaws for eight sizes. This page explains pipe, sizes, availability, media with limits, tools, transitions and how it differs from Mepla and from the push-fit system iFIT.

What FlowFit is meant for
Drinking water, heating and cooling water installation on the floor level and in the riser up to d75 – everywhere Mepla would be used, with the advantage of lateral pressing in pre-wall installations, shafts and manifolds. Compressed air is approved after the technical information (not with PB pipe). FlowFit is not meant for fuel gases, solar and high temperature.
How the lateral pressing technology works
The PPSU press fitting is pushed onto the pipe; the insertion depth can be checked through an inspection window, and the fitting can be rotated into the best position before pressing. The press jaw engages the press sleeve from the side – which is why two jaws suffice (blue for d16–d40, green for d50–d75), and space on one side of the joint is enough. A press indicator (blue or orange) drops off during pressing; unpressed fittings can be recognised by it and are leaking during the leak test thanks to defined leak paths. For d16–d40 there is a hand press tool without battery.
The system pipe ML is a PE-RT II/Al/PE-RT II multilayer pipe and diffusion-tight; ML Therm is the pre-insulated variant; PB is a polybutene pipe without aluminium – not diffusion-tight, therefore not for heating and compressed air.

Which medium with which limits
After the Planning and Installation Guide (01/2023): continuous 0–70 °C at 10 bar; cold water 0–20 °C up to 16 bar; short-term 95 °C (drinking water) or 100 °C (heating water) for a total of 100 h in 50 years. Heating only with system pipe ML (diffusion-tight).
| Medium | FlowFit (EPDM) |
|---|---|
| drinking water | suitable 70 °C / 10 bar cold water 16 bar (0–20 °C) |
| heating water (closed circuit) | suitable 70 °C / 10 bar system pipe ML only (diffusion-tight), not PB |
| compressed air, oil-free | suitable 70 °C / 10 bar to the manufacturer’s technical information on compressed air (purity class) |
| cooling water | suitable 70 °C / 10 bar |
| natural gas (DVGW G 260) | not suitable |
Transitions: Mepla, Geberit metal systems, thread
Geberit offers transitions from FlowFit to Mepla, to the Geberit metal systems (with stainless steel press socket), to thread (transition bends and elbows with male and female thread, MasterFix) and to valve connections. To the Viega and Sanha systems the way leads via thread to EN 10226-1 or flange; observe the flow rule and the material pairing (mixed installation).
FlowFit, Mepla or iFIT?
Mepla: same field of application, classic pressing technology with a jaw per size, larger range, d16/d20 from stock with us. FlowFit: faster in tight positions, less tooling, press indicator – whoever introduces a new multilayer system saves jaws. GF iFIT: push-fit system d16–d32 without press machine, for simple applications with low demands on the installer – see multilayer and push-fit systems and From our practice.
Installation in brief
- Cut the pipe to length, calibrate and chamfer; check the insertion depth in the inspection window.
- Rotate the fitting into position, press from the side with press jaw blue (d16–d40) or green (d50–d75); hand press tool up to d40.
- Press indicator removed = pressed; leak test, record.
- Heating only with system pipe ML; PB only for drinking water.

Frequently asked questions about Geberit FlowFit
Why only two press jaws?
Because the jaw engages the press sleeve from the side and does not enclose the fitting profile: the blue jaw presses d16–d40, the green one d50–d75. That saves tools and weight in the case.
Can I mix FlowFit with Mepla?
Not the fittings – but Geberit offers transition fittings from FlowFit to Mepla, so both systems can be combined in one installation.
How hot may it get?
Continuously 70 °C at 10 bar; short-term 95 °C (drinking water) or 100 °C (heating water), a total of 100 h in 50 years (guide 2023).
Does heating work with the PB pipe?
No – the polybutene pipe is not diffusion-tight. Heating and compressed air only with system pipe ML.
How do I recognise a forgotten press operation?
By the press indicator, which is missing after pressing, and by the leak test: unpressed FlowFit fittings leak through defined leak paths.
