Geberit Mepla: the multilayer pipe press system – d16 to d75

Mepla is Geberit's multilayer composite pipe system: a pipe of PE-RT with an aluminium core that can be bent and stays in shape, pressed with fittings in PPSU, brass or gunmetal. It is the system for the floor level – drinking water and heating, from the manifold to the draw-off point – and connects to the metal systems via transitions. This page explains pipe, sizes, availability, media with their limits, tools, transitions and how it differs from FlowFit, Raxofix and iFIT.

What Mepla is meant for

Drinking water and heating installation on the floor level and in the riser up to d75: loop and series pipework, radiator connections, manifolds, bathrooms in series. The composite pipe can be bent by hand or with a bending spring and keeps its shape, it is diffusion-tight thanks to the aluminium layer and lighter than metal pipe. Geberit additionally approves cooling water, fire-fighting water wet, compressed air after the technical information and inert gases – within the limits of the application table. Mepla is not meant for fuel gases, solar and high temperature; for those there are metal systems – for gas the G variants with HNBR (such as Viega Profipress G), for solar and high temperature variants with FKM (such as Viega Profipress S or SANHA NiroSan Industry).

How the joint works

Cut the pipe to length, calibrate and chamfer (so that the sealing ring is not damaged), check the insertion depth – it remains visible at the fitting –, push the fitting on and press with the Mepla press jaw or the press ring of the size. The black CIIR sealing rings seal against the pipe; the stainless steel press sleeve encloses the pipe. Unpressed Mepla joints are visibly leaking during the standard pressure test with air and water – Geberit's counterpart to the SC-Contur.

Pipe, sizes and availability

The Mepla pipe is a PE-RT/AL/PE-RT composite pipe, in straight lengths and coils, with and without insulation or conduit. The table shows the sizes; d16 and d20 – the floor-level sizes – we carry from stock, d26 to d75 we procure through Geberit.

Tools

Mepla is pressed with Geberit press jaws per size (d16–d40) and press rings (d50–d75) on Geberit press tools or compatible machines; for small sizes there is a hand press tool. The jaws are Mepla-specific – FlowFit and the Geberit metal systems use different ones. Which jaw belongs to which system is explained under press profiles and tools.

Transitions: FlowFit, Geberit metal systems, thread, flange

Mepla is designed for transitions: transition fittings to the Geberit metal systems (stainless steel, carbon steel, copper) with plain end, transitions to FlowFit, threaded transitions with female and male thread, transition elbows with wall plate for valve connections, MasterFix unions, loose flanges PN 6/10 with collar and press nipple. To our Viega systems the way leads via thread to EN 10226-1 or flange; in drinking water observe the flow rule (mixed installation).

Mepla, FlowFit, Raxofix or iFIT?

FlowFit is Geberit's newer multilayer system with lateral pressing technology, two jaws for all eight sizes and a press indicator – faster in tight installation positions; Mepla remains the system with the larger range and the longer track record. Viega Raxofix is the multilayer system without O-ring, 16–63 mm, to order. GF iFIT is not a press system but a push-fit system d16–d32 – tool-free, for simple, fast applications. A comparison is given on the page multilayer and push-fit systems.

Installation in brief

  • Cut the pipe square, calibrate and chamfer – without chamfering the sealing ring suffers.
  • Check the insertion depth (visible at the fitting), push the fitting on, press with Mepla jaw or press ring.
  • Pressure test with water or air; unpressed joints leak.
  • Bend with bending spring or bending tool, minimum bending radius after manufacturer statement; take up expansion via guides.
  • UV protection: do not expose composite pipe permanently to daylight.

Frequently asked questions about Geberit Mepla

How hot may heating water be with Mepla?

Continuously 0–80 °C at 10 bar (application table 04/2026); malfunction temperature 100 °C to ISO 10508 for a total of 100 h during the service life.

Does Mepla work in drinking water at 16 bar?

Cold only: 0–20 °C up to 16 bar. Hot 0–70 °C at 10 bar.

Can I connect Mepla to Viega systems?

Not directly – via transitions with thread to EN 10226-1 or via flange. Geberit systems among themselves (FlowFit and the Geberit metal systems) have their own transition fittings.

Is Mepla approved for compressed air?

Yes, 0–70 °C at 10 bar after Geberit's technical information on compressed air (observe the purity class to ISO 8573-1) – listed as “conditionally” in the system finder.

How do I recognise a forgotten press operation?

By the pressure test: unpressed Mepla fittings are visibly leaking with air and water. Pressing afterwards is enough.
