Processing: from cutting to length through to parts made to drawing

A pipe to standard is six metres long, black and has two plain ends. The site needs 2 350 mm, a thread at one end, a roll groove at the other and a primer that matches the paint. Everything that lies between stock material and installation we call processing – and deliver it together with the material, from one source.

Mechanical processing

  • Sawing and fixed lengths. Pipes, round bar, sections to the required dimension – square-cut and deburred, in series or as a single piece; on request capped and cleaned so that no swarf gets into the line. Thanks to our TÜV Süd certification we are authorised to re-stamp pipes to the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU: the marking moves with the cut piece, the inspection certificate remains assigned to the fixed length – also for pipes outside the standard lengths.
  • Thread cutting. Pipe threads to EN 10226-1 on threaded pipe, also on fixed lengths; thread and pipe from one source, so fitting and pipe match. Malleable-iron threaded fittings.
  • Roll grooving. For grooved coupling systems – the groove to the manufacturer’s specification, on stock pipe or on the fixed length.
  • Pipe bending. Bends made from the pipe instead of welded-in fittings where radius and wall allow it; we state the limits when you enquire.
  • Parts to drawing. Flanges, fittings and pipes to your drawing – from the special flange for a multi-part riser to the transition piece between two standards worlds. Mixing standards worlds.

Surface treatment

  • Hot-dip galvanising. Corrosion protection for pipes, flanges and fittings after cutting – the finished part is galvanised.
  • Pickling and neutralising. Not everyone can do this: scale, greases, oils and residues from manufacturing are removed, the material is then neutralised. On stainless steel this supports the protective layer; on lines for highly flammable gases it is mandatory.
  • Blasting, priming, coating. Blasted Sa 2½, primed with zinc phosphate or to AGI Q151, coated in the RAL colour of your plant – heating, refrigeration and process lines with the coating sequence your specification names.
  • Powder coating and PE coating. Powder to RAL, PE coating to DIN 30670 for buried lines (yellow or black).

One order, one delivery: material and processing come together, with one contact, and the certificates remain assigned to the material.

What we need from you

Not all of it – what you have. We ask for the rest.

  • Drawing or sketch with dimensions – for fixed lengths the list length × quantity is enough
  • Material and standard of the base material or the order item with us
  • Surface specification: coating system (build-up), colour, standard (AGI, RAL), intended use (heating, refrigeration, buried, gas)
  • Certificate requirement and date

Frequently asked questions

Can I get pipes cut to length and bevelled?

By arrangement - Zickwolff organises cutting, bevelling and machining to drawing.

Does the certificate remain valid after processing?

The inspection certificate attests the base material; the assignment to the heat remains with cutting and coating when the marking is transferred. For pipes to the Pressure Equipment Directive we may do the re-stamping ourselves (TÜV Süd certification). Whether a processing step requires a new certificate, we clarify case by case.

How long may a fixed length be?

That depends on pipe, saw and transport – lengths over 2.5 m are a special solution in shipping. We tell you when you enquire.

Do you also make welded assemblies?

No. Special parts to drawing yes – and on request we can forward the base material for pipe spools and welded assemblies to a fabricator of your choice.

What should the pipe become?

Send drawing, list or sketch and the surface specification. We tell you what we can do and deliver it with the material.
