Which clamp for which pipe

Three designs, three pipe worlds. The malleable-iron repair clamp type DS (Gebo series 252/260, GF PRIMOFIT short and long) is built for threaded pipe to EN 10255: two half shells with hex-socket screws, EPDM sleeve, 17.2 to 114.3 mm (Gebo 260 from 17.2 mm, Gebo 252 and GF from 21.3 mm). The brass repair clamp type MD (Gebo 620, GF PRIMOFIT brass) belongs on copper tube to EN 1057 from 10 to 54 mm – and on stainless tube when the outside diameter equals the copper size. The stainless repair band (gebounifix mini, middle, maxi; GF pipe-burst band with NBR seal up to 80 °C) tensions a band with a rubber sleeve (Gebo: fully bonded, honeycomb structure) over ranges instead of one size: 21–25, 26–30 mm and so on, for smooth pipe in steel, boiler tube, copper, stainless, with middle and maxi also cast iron and fibre cement, and for plastic pipe – there, however, only short-term and only with cold water.

Branching later: tapping clamps and tapping saddles

The malleable-iron tapping clamp type ANB (Gebo 261 for 17.2 to 114.3 mm, GF PRIMOFIT for 1/2 to 2 inch) sits on the threaded pipe like a repair clamp but carries an outlet with female thread – Gebo Rp 3/8 to 2 inch, GF Rp 1/2 to 1 inch – for the later branch in water and heating lines, drinking water 25 °C/16 bar, heating 90 °C/6 bar. Drilling is done through the outlet with a hole saw so the threads stay intact. For copper tube there is the brass tapping clamp type MB. The stainless tapping saddle (gebounifix) is the civil-engineering version: 60 mm wide band, rubber-lined on the inside, for pipes from 88 to 285 mm, outlets 1/2 to 2 inch – Gebo recommends it especially on plastic pipe.

Service limits per medium

The repair clamp carries what the pipe carries – within the manufacturer values. For the stainless repair bands the permitted pressure depends on pipe type, diameter, damage and number of parts; the maxi values are manufacturer guide values (16 bar up to 230 mm one-part, decreasing to 2 bar at 1000 mm). Gas only with NBR sleeve and only outside buildings (rule of thumb FR-19).

The right length and number of parts

For repair clamps and bands, besides the outside diameter the length of the damage counts: the sleeve must cover it with a margin. gebounifix mini comes in 60 mm (one bolt) and 100 mm (two bolts), middle in 100 and 150 mm, maxi from 150 to 1000 mm – the manufacturer’s rule: damage length plus pipe diameter, for PE plus 50 percent. The number of maxi parts follows the diameter: one-part up to 350 mm, two-part from 88 mm, three-part from 270 mm up to 1000 mm (ranges per version in the Gebo selection table). For the workshop or the van there are the repair boxes S (60–170 mm), L (48–359 mm) and XL (90–669 mm) with EPDM or NBR – listed, we procure them.
