Multigebo: joining, repairing, transitioning multilayer pipes of different makes

The multilayer pipe in the wall is twenty years old, the print is gone, and the matching press system no longer exists – or the press jaw is missing. Multigebo is built for exactly this situation: a brass compression fitting that holds multilayer pipes to DIN 16836 and EN ISO 21003 regardless of manufacturer. Outside one body per outside diameter, inside a support sleeve matching the measured inside diameter, between them a grip ring. Mounted with standard tools; depending on size the pipe ends need a gap of about 90 to 105 mm (installation instructions), without further chiselling.

The modular system: body, support sleeve, grip ring, gauge

Multilayer pipes of the same outside diameter have different wall thicknesses depending on the make – a 16 mm pipe can be 11.5 or 12 mm inside. That is why Multigebo is a kit: the body fits the outside diameter, the support sleeves cover the inside diameters (at 20 mm four of them from 14.4 to 16.0 mm), the gauge tells which of them belongs in the pipe, and the grip ring closes the joint. That way a pipe can be joined whose manufacturer nobody knows any more. The version with length adjustment slides onto the pipe without either end having to be pushed in – that is the repair in the existing installation and the joint between two different multilayer pipes. The version with male thread to EN 10226-1 (1/2 to 1 1/4 inch) is the transition to fitting, valve or another system and the reduction or extension.

Service limits

Multigebo is released for permanent use and tested with a temperature-cycling test. The multilayer pipe sets the limits: drinking water cold 20 °C at 10 bar, drinking water warm and heating water 70 °C at 6 bar, short-term 95 °C. Multigebo is not approved for gas, oils or compressed air.

Manufacturer data; the installation instructions of series 320 apply.

Installation in wall and floor: permitted, with corrosion protection of the joint and expansion allowance per the pipe manufacturer’s laying guidelines. Multigebo needs no maintenance – but a record of where it sits.

Measuring correctly: outside and inside

Two dimensions decide: the outside diameter with the calliper (16, 20, 26 …) and the inside diameter with the gauge from the kit – the gauge that matches the inside diameter names the support sleeve. Cut the pipe end square, chamfer inside and outside, burr-free; calibrate if oval; fit support sleeve, union nut and grip ring in the order of the installation instructions (grease-free lubricant) and tighten the body. At 25/26 mm two outside diameters lie in one kit (two grip rings), at 16 and 20 mm the fitting also fits many PE-X pipes. Rule of thumb FR-17.

Frequently asked questions

Which pipes is Multigebo approved for?

For multilayer composite pipes to DIN 16836 and EN ISO 21003 type M in 14 to 32 mm; in 16 and 20 mm also for many PE-Xc and PE-RT pipes (type P) and PE-X to EN ISO 15875. The manufacturer names no pipe brands – that is the point.

May I install Multigebo in the wall?

Yes, with corrosion protection and expansion allowance per the laying guidelines; the joint is maintenance-free.

How hot may the water be?

Drinking water warm and heating water up to 70 °C at 6 bar, short-term up to 95 °C; cold water 20 °C at 10 bar.

Does Multigebo replace the press system?

For repair and transition in existing installations yes. For new installations the pipe manufacturer’s press system remains first choice – there fitting and pipe come from one hand.

Do I need a press tool?

No – standard tools are enough. That is the difference from all press fittings for multilayer pipe.
