FAQ on joining without welding

The questions that reach us by phone when a line is leaking or has to be extended – and the answers from the manufacturer data of Gebo and GF. Every answer names the way to the page with the figures. What is not here, the inquiry clarifies.

Repair and duration

Does a repair clamp last?

On steel, boiler, copper and stainless pipe within the manufacturer values: Gebo says permanent, GF calls its PRIMOFIT clamps temporary. On PE, PVC and multilayer pipe always short-term only and cold water only. Repair clamps, rule of thumb FR-18.

And a compression fitting?

Yes – malleable-iron and brass compression fittings are released for permanent use, resistant to tension and shear. Multigebo likewise (temperature-cycling test).

Can I seal a pipe break with a clamp?

Only with the civil-engineering clamp gebounifix maxi (one- to three-part) in cold water; length = damage plus pipe diameter, for PE plus 50 percent. Inside a building a break means a pipe replacement: section out, new section in, two couplings type O.

What is the leak stopper?

A rubber cone for a hole on a depressurised line – gain minutes, then repair properly.

Can I loosen and reuse a compression fitting?

Malleable-iron compression fittings: GF expressly calls PRIMOFIT a detachable clamped joint; with Gebo, seal ring and grip ring are available as spare parts and are renewed on reinstallation. Multigebo and polygebo are intended by Gebo for single installation only. GF names screws, nuts and seals of its repair clamps as replaceable.

Installation, wall and floor

May a repair clamp go under plaster?

Gebo: malleable-iron repair clamp in cold water yes, with pressure test. Hot water, heating, gas: keep accessible.

May Multigebo go into wall and floor?

Yes – with corrosion protection of the joint and expansion allowance per the pipe manufacturer’s laying guidelines; Multigebo is maintenance-free. Multigebo.

Which tools do I need?

Standard tools for compression fittings (torque guide values in the Gebo installation instructions), ring or open-end spanner for gebounifix middle and maxi, hex key for Minigebo (size 3 or 4) and the Gebo and GF repair clamps, hole saw for drilling through the tapping clamp. No press tool, no welding set.

How much space do I need?

gebounifix mini manages with 7 mm, Multigebo needs a gap of about 90 to 105 mm between the pipe ends depending on size (without pushing), a coupling type O twice the insertion depth (at 1 inch 35 to 50 mm per side according to the dimension table).

May the joint be deflected?

Malleable-iron compression fittings up to 3° per side, i.e. 6° per coupling (Gebo and GF). A repair band needs a straight, round pipe.

Do I need a support sleeve?

On PE, PP and PVC-C pipe always (Gebo supplies it separately, GF PRIMOFIT brings it along, polygebo in the kit); on multilayer pipe the support sleeve from the Multigebo kit; on steel and copper no. Plastic pipe.

Dimension and pipe

Which diameter – measure outside!

Compression fittings and clamps clamp on the outside diameter. 1 inch is 33.7 mm on threaded pipe, 31.8 mm on boiler tube, 32 mm on PE pipe – the nominal size is not enough. Rule of thumb FR-17.

What if the pipe is not round?

Measure twice 90° apart. If the larger dimension deviates more than the tolerance band of the fitting allows (GF names it per dimension, e.g. 33.3 to 34.2 mm at 1 inch), a repair band with a range helps – or the inquiry with both dimensions.

Does a compression fitting for threaded pipe fit boiler tube?

No. Threaded pipe 1 inch = 33.7 mm, boiler tube 1 inch = 31.8 mm; the boiler-tube series (02.150.…) have their own grip rings.

Multilayer pipe of unknown origin – what now?

Measure the outside diameter, determine the inside diameter with the gauge from the Multigebo kit, choose the matching support sleeve. The pipe manufacturer does not matter.

Medium: drinking water, heating, gas

Which seal for drinking water?

EPDM – at Gebo the series 151/222 (malleable iron, cold up to 25 °C), 313/314 (brass, warm up to 85 °C) and Multigebo (70 °C); retrofit seals for 150/220 we stock. At GF PRIMOFIT the blue EPDM version (warm up to 95 °C).

May I repair gas with a compression fitting?

Outside buildings with the series approved for it: on steel pipe Gebo 150/220 and GF PRIMOFIT NBR (DIN 3387-1, 5 bar), on PE Gebo 153/155 with support sleeve (DVGW G 5600-1, 4 bar). Inside buildings only HTB (Gebo 180 up to 2 inch 5 bar, 225 from 2 1/2 inch 1 bar; GF FIREJOINT up to 2 inch) – and the work belongs to the licensed installer. Rule of thumb FR-19.

Heating water – which limit?

Malleable iron NBR 80 °C/6 bar, repair clamp DS 90 °C/6 bar, Multigebo 70 °C/6 bar, GF PRIMOFIT FKM up to 150 °C/10 bar (also steam, water-glycol).

Compressed air?

Malleable iron 150/220 up to 12.5 bar (220: 10 bar), repair clamp DS oil-free 10 bar, GF PRIMOFIT 16 bar; for the repair bands Gebo gives no compressed-air release.

What about steam, chemicals, oil?

Steam only GF PRIMOFIT FKM up to 150 °C; heating oil EL only filling lines (Gebo 150, DIBt); chemicals outside the catalogue list: ask the manufacturer, do not guess.

Procurement

What does Zickwolff stock?

Gebo compression fittings A/I/O/T 1/2 to 2 inch, repair clamps DS and MD, EPDM seals, gebounifix mini, Multigebo 16 and 20, Minigebo; GF PRIMOFIT couplings, transitions, tees, repair clamps and pipe-burst band. Stocked sizes are in bold on the pages. The standard names dimensions. What is listed here, we carry – from stock or to order; how fast, we clarify on request.

Are there spare parts?

Yes – seal and grip rings, conversion kits and drinking-water seals for the Gebo series; we procure them with the article number of the fitting.

Do you name prices on the pages?

No. Prices and quantities come with the quotation – send us what you have.
