Welding neck flange type 11: dimensions and dimensional drawing to EN 1092-1

Dimensions of the welding neck flange type 11 to EN 1092-1 (formerly DIN 2633) with the dimensional drawing of your size – available from stock or to order. Every dimension of the welding neck flange (type 11) in one table per pressure rating: the connection dimensions outside diameter D, bolt circle K, bolt holes n × L and raised face d₁, together with the type-specific dimensions plate thickness C₂, height H₂, hub diameter N₁ and wall thickness s, plus indicative weights – from PN 6 to PN 40, for all nominal sizes from DN 10 to DN 800. All dimensions in millimetres, dimension letters to EN 1092-1.

Dimensional drawing for your size

The dimensional drawing – also called dimension sheet, outline drawing or dimension sketch – shows every dimension, the bolt pattern and the tolerances for your size.

How it works: Choose PN 16 in the field “Pressure rating” and DN 100 in the field “Nominal size”. The dimensional drawing immediately shows every dimension of the welding neck flange type 11 with tolerances, the table below all sizes. “Print this size as PDF” takes the drawing with you.

Example DN 100 PN 16: outside diameter D 220 mm, bolt circle diameter K 180 mm, bolt holes n × L 8 × ⌀18 mm, bolt size M16, flange thickness C2 20 mm, raised-face diameter d1 158 mm, weight (guide value, steel) 4.6 kg.

Choose the pressure rating and nominal size – the drawing and dimension table then show exactly this version, with the values written directly in the drawing instead of just the dimension letters. The tables for the nominal sizes covered here are further down the page.

EN 1092-1 covers the greyed-out sizes. Our dimension overview lists them as order dimensions – see the table “Further deliverable dimensions” below.

Where exactly it is measured

outside diameter D
largest diameter of the flange plate, measured across the edge
bolt circle diameter K
diameter of the circle through the centres of the bolt holes – with an even number of holes, from hole centre to opposite hole centre
bolt holes n × L
count the holes, then measure the diameter of one hole – the hole is always larger than the bolt (example: hole 18 mm, bolt M16)
raised-face diameter d1
diameter of the raised face, measured across its outer edge
flange thickness C2
measure from the sealing face to the back of the flange plate, not at the hub. A projecting raised face is already included and is not added
hub diameter N1
measure at the transition to the flange plate, where the hub is thickest – not at the weld end
wall thickness at the weld end S
wall thickness at the weld end, i.e. at the thin end of the hub – full wall at the end plane – with a bore taper Sp = pipe wall stands there, S only behind it
raised-face height f1
height by which the raised face projects above the flange plate

notes on the design

These values apply equally to every size of this type and are therefore not given in the dimension table.

Dimensions are nominal dimensions to EN 1092-1 and do not replace the data sheet of the actual item. No statement about pressure or temperature suitability and no statement about the material. DN is a reference number, not a dimension in millimetres – the inside diameter differs from it. Direct link to this size

Where it is measured – at the welding end

Measured at the welding end of the hub, at the end plane – A on the extended outside surface, S as the full wall to the bore, as the standard enters both in annex A. Where the bore is tapered to the pipe wall, the reduced wall Sp = T stands at the end plane – S only behind the taper.

Bore machined to the pipe wall: at the end plane Sp (= pipe wall T), behind the taper the full wall S. Not to scale. Image: Zickwolff

For welding-neck flanges (types 11 and 34) EN 1092-1 dimensions the welding end with the hub outside diameter A, chosen like the pipe outside diameter from EN 10220, and the wall thickness S, a minimum value chosen from the pipe wall in ISO 4200. Both have plus tolerances only (table 22): A up to +3,0 mm to DN 125, +4,5 mm to DN 1200 and +6,0 mm above, S +1,0 to +2,0 mm with a hub machined on both sides, +2,0 to +3,5 mm with a hub machined on one side or unmachined. So the hub wall may be thicker than nominal but never thinner. In the standard’s figure (annex A, figure A.1) both are entered at the end plane: A on the extended outside surface, S as the full wall to the bore – the bevel only appears to cut the wall, the root face is not S. In practice you take S with the caliper where the hub wall is cylindrical, directly behind the end of the bevel. If S is larger than the pipe wall T, annex A (figure A.3) has the bore tapered at 15° +5/−0 to the reduced wall Sp = T – the end plane then shows Sp, which is deliberately smaller than S and, for type 11, has no tolerance of its own – it must equal the pipe wall. S is read only where the taper ends. The bevel itself is the same as for fittings: 30° +5/−0 with a root face of 1,6 ± 0,8 mm for 3 < S < 22 mm.

Typical measuring error: Measuring the hub wall across the bore taper and comparing it with S – there the reduced wall Sp applies, which is meant to equal the pipe wall.

Rule of thumb: The hub wall S is a minimum – it may be thicker, never thinner.

The standard names dimensions. What is listed here, we carry – from stock or to order; how quickly a size is available we clarify on request.

How to measure correctly

Four measurements identify a flange: outside diameter D, bolt circle K, the number and diameter of the bolt holes n × L, and the flange thickness C. Measure the bolt circle from the centre of one hole to the centre of the opposite hole – or, more easily, from the outer edge of one hole to the inner edge of the opposite one, which gives the same value. Measure the flange thickness from the sealing face to the back of the plate: a raised face is already included in C.

outside diameter D
largest diameter of the flange plate, measured across the edge
bolt circle diameter K
diameter of the circle through the centres of the bolt holes – with an even number of holes, from hole centre to opposite hole centre
bolt holes n × L
count the holes, then measure the diameter of one hole – the hole is always larger than the bolt (example: hole 18 mm, bolt M16)
raised-face diameter d1
diameter of the raised face, measured across its outer edge
flange thickness C2
measure from the sealing face to the back of the flange plate, not at the hub. A projecting raised face is already included and is not added
hub diameter N1
measure at the transition to the flange plate, where the hub is thickest – not at the weld end
wall thickness at the weld end S
wall thickness at the weld end, i.e. at the thin end of the hub – full wall at the end plane – with a bore taper Sp = pipe wall stands there, S only behind it
raised-face height f1
height by which the raised face projects above the flange plate
distance between adjacent bolt holes
with equal holes, measure from the outer edge of one hole to the inner edge of the other hole (in the measuring direction that is the same side) – half a hole here cancels half a hole there: exactly the centre distance. Applies to the bolt circle K as to the hole spacing, as long as both holes are the same size

A measured value rarely matches the table exactly: EN 1092-1 allows ±1.0 mm on the bolt circle (bolts up to M24), ±2.0 mm on the outside diameter up to DN 150 and +1.0/−1.3 mm on a flange thickness up to 18 mm. The dimensional drawing on this page shows the limit deviations for each size.

Connection dimensions are the same across types: outside diameter D, bolt circle (also called bolt circle diameter/BCD or pitch circle diameter/PCD) K, bolt holes n × L and raised face d₁ apply per DN and PN to all flange types to EN 1092-1 – they are included in the tables here. For the type-independent overview of all pressure ratings, see our flange dimensions PN 6 to PN 40; plate thickness, height and hub are type-specific.

The welding neck flange (type 11) is butt-welded to the pipe with its tapered hub. The continuous force flow from the plate through the hub into the pipe makes it the first choice for higher pressures and temperatures, cyclic loading and critical media – in plant engineering it is the most widely used flange type. For an overview of all styles and their ASME counterparts, see our page flange types international.

DN 10 – DN 800

The column headers use the dimension letters from the drawing above: A = pipe outside diameter, n × ØL = number × diameter of bolt holes, M = bolt size, d₁ = raised face, K = bolt circle, D = outside diameter, C₂ = plate thickness, H₂ = height, N₁ = hub diameter, s = wall thickness.

How to order unambiguously: the designation to EN 1092-1

The standard specifies a consistent designation system: Flange EN 1092-1, then type and sealing face form, nominal size, pressure rating and material. A welding neck flange type 11 with sealing face form B1, DN 200, PN 40 in P250GH is therefore designated:

Flange EN 1092-1/11 B1/DN 200/PN 40/P250GH

If the hub is to have a wall thickness that deviates from the standard value – for example to match a thick-walled pipe – the required wall thickness s in millimetres is added before the material, for example Flange EN 1092-1/11 B1/DN 200/PN 40/10/P250GH for s = 10 mm. Anyone who supplies both figures receives the matching flange without a query – the bore of the welding neck flange is matched to the pipe inside diameter.

1 Pipe OD = outside diameter of the matching pipe (in the standard: “outside diameter of the hub” A). The bore of the welding neck flange follows the pipe inside diameter and therefore depends on the pipe wall thickness – state this when ordering.

2 M = metric bolt size to EN 1092-1; the bolt-hole diameter ØL is always larger than the bolt thread.

3 Plate thickness C₂ including raised-face height f₁ (sealing face form B1).

4 s = wall thickness at the weld end (standard value). Deviating hub wall thicknesses are permitted under EN 1092-1 and are stated in the designation – see the ordering example. From DN 700 the standard does not specify a wall thickness (“–”) – execution by agreement, usually matched to the pipe wall thickness.

5 Weights are indicative values for steel flanges; minor deviations are possible depending on manufacturer and design.

6 DN 65 has 8 bolt holes at PN 10 and PN 16 to EN 1092-1. Older flanges to DIN 2501 have 4 holes here and are still common in existing plant – check the bolt-hole pattern for replacement and extension orders.

For DN 10 to DN 40 the type 11 dimensions of pressure ratings PN 10, PN 16 and PN 25 are identical to PN 40; for DN 50 to DN 150 this applies to PN 10 with PN 16 and to PN 25 with PN 40 respectively. For DN 700 and DN 800, pressure rating PN 40 is not standardised.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find the dimensions of a welding neck flange DN 100 PN 16 to EN 1092-1 type 11?

The dimension table on this page lists all available sizes to EN 1092-1 type 11; the dimensional drawing above it shows the selected size with all dimensions and tolerances and can be printed as a PDF - the data sheet for your size.

Where are the wall thickness S and the hub diameter A of a welding-neck flange measured – and why may S only deviate upwards?

At the end plane of the welding end, as the full wall as in the standard’s figure (EN 1092-1, clause 5.6, table 22 and annex A). S is defined as a minimum value matching the pipe wall, so table 22 gives plus tolerances only – thicker is allowed, thinner is not. Where the bore is tapered to the pipe wall (annex A, figure A.3), the reduced wall Sp applies at that point.

How this data is compiled. This page does not reproduce a standard. It shows the dimensions you need for an enquiry, an order and installation – for sizes we supply, checked against manufacturers’ and suppliers’ documentation and against our own product data. What you see here is what the market supplies, checked against the standard – or calculated by us. How we select our sources and keep them up to date: About this knowledge.

Dimensions: as the market supplies them – from manufacturers’ and suppliers’ documentation and from our own product data, checked against EN 1092-1. All information without guarantee – the current standard texts and the manufacturers’ technical data sheets always prevail. Values selected according to our delivery and stock programme; compiled from our own ERP data and long-standing trading practice, cross-checked against publicly available manufacturer information and reference tables. These tables do not replace the standard text – the current edition of the standard always governs.
