What has changed between editions of a standard

This page answers one question: has a dimension of a component changed between two editions of a standard – and if so, in which direction. It is meant for anyone who maintains an existing plant and has a part in front of them that was made to an earlier edition.

These entries say what the standard has changed. They say nothing about material, pressure rating, scope of testing or the condition of an installed part — and nothing about whether an existing part can continue to be used. That assessment remains with the specific plant.

How far back the comparison reaches

Our coverage is uneven, and that is stated here rather than passed over: a missing edition would otherwise read as “nothing has changed”. Where a row says not recorded, we simply do not have that edition.

    Table 7 carries a row of its own for SAW tubes: outside diameter ± 0.75 % or ± 6 mm (whichever is smaller) for all D, wall thickness up to 10 mm ± 10 % or ± 0.3 mm (whichever is greater), above that ± 8 % or ± 2 mm (whichever is smaller) - for EW and HFW tubes the limit deviations are unchanged from 2005.

    New is a limit depth for surface imperfections: whatever reaches deeper than 5 % of the wall thickness or 3 mm (whichever is smaller) is to be removed by rework - and the visual inspection now expressly applies without special equipment.

    The marking now names the steel name or material number as well as the tube type EW, HFW, SAWL or SAWH and lists the application methods - the category conformity note of the 2005 edition is dropped, the tag instead of tube marking up to D 51 remains.

    The test standards have been updated: non-destructive testing to the EN ISO 10893 series (including digital radiographic testing), tensile test to EN ISO 6892-1:2016, ring flattening and drift expanding test to EN ISO 8492:2013 and EN ISO 8493:2004.

What is deliberately not given here

No dimension table of an earlier edition, neither in full nor in part. At most 12 value statements are recorded per component and pair of editions, and at most three example sizes per statement – this register is an evaluation, not a second print of the standard. The editions themselves are available from DIN Media.
