Enquiry helper for special parts: standard part, special manufacture, additive manufacturing or repair?

Five questions, one recommendation. The enquiry helper assigns your project to one of four routes – standard part from stock, conventional special manufacture, additive manufacturing with a particular material appraisal, or repair by build-up welding – and says which details we need for a quotation. It replaces neither design nor appraisal; it sorts the question before it is asked.

Five questions about your part

What do you have?
Which material?
Is the part pressure-retaining?
Is acceptance to the PED, AD 2000 or ASME required?
Quantity and shape?

Answer the questions – the recommendation appears here.

The four routes

  • Standard part from stock. If a product standard fits (EN 1092-1, EN 10253, EN 10216/10217, EN 1503 …), the part is available forged, rolled or cast – certified, from stock or to order. That is the answer in nine out of ten enquiries.
  • Conventional special manufacture. If there is no standard, but a drawing and a geometry that can be turned, forged or welded: special part from bar, forged blank or welded construction – with certificate, for pressure equipment in a known material to a harmonised standard.
  • Additive manufacturing with a particular material appraisal. Internal geometry that cannot be drilled, small series without tooling, a spare part the manufacturer has qualified that way – pressure-retaining only with a material appraisal and conformity assessment. The route leads to the manufacturer or to a certified producer; we name it but do not broker it.
  • Repair by build-up welding. An existing part with wear or material loss: build-up welding and re-machining by a qualified welding shop under the rules of welding.

Frequently asked questions on the enquiry helper

What information does an enquiry for a 3D-printed metal part need?

Drawing or sketch, material, quantity, operating conditions and whether a certificate is needed - the enquiry helper asks for these and generates the enquiry for your quote.

What do you need for a quotation on a standard part?

Standard, type, nominal size and pressure rating, material, quantity, required certificate to EN 10204 – nothing more.

What do you need for a special part?

A drawing or a sample, the material with its condition, pressure and temperature in service, the required acceptance and the quantity. Without a drawing it begins with measuring and material identification.

Does Zickwolff broker printing service providers?

No. We show the route and supply the standard part. For spare parts of pumps and valves the manufacturer is the contact.
