Washing machine, dishwasher or outdoor tap: how do I extend or relocate a pipe?
This is how it works with GF iFIT: the existing connection – usually a ½ or ¾ thread – is picked up with a transition module, the run to the new location is bridged with d16 or d20 pipe, changes of direction go via elbow modules or a hand bend, and at the destination there is again a thread or tap connection. Pushed instead of pressed: chamfer, calibrate, push, check.
The plan in three questions
Where does the pipe start? At the existing connection: appliance valve, angle valve or a free thread – the iFIT transition module with female or male thread picks it up. How does the run go? Short runs exposed or in the pre-wall, longer ones in conduit; the composite pipe keeps its shape, the polybutylene pipe comes from the coil. Where does it end? At the appliance connection with a transition module and draw-off valve, at the outdoor tap with a frost-proof tap or a drainable pipe.
The steps
- Shut off the water, drain the pipe, open the old connection.
- Set the transition: iFIT transition module onto the existing thread – check the thread type first (female thread Rp or male thread R/G).
- Lay the run: cut the pipe to length, chamfer and calibrate, adapters up to the stop, modules until they click; changes of direction with an elbow module or a hand bend within the permissible radius (external bending spring for the composite pipe).
- Set the new end point: transition module with female thread for valve or tap – or tap connection module in the wall.
- Pull-back test at every joint, then leak test before closing – fill, vent, test, record.
Every action in detail: step-by-step installation; which transition fits which existing installation: transitions to other systems.
What you need
One transition module per connection to the existing installation, one elbow module per change of direction, pipe length equals run plus 10 % reserve, one adapter for every push point – and with the first order the tool set (pipe shears, chamfering/calibrating tool; belongs to every first order according to the manufacturer, we include it in the enquiry). The exact list is worked out by the parts-list tool.
The limits of this project
At the outdoor tap, frost decides: lay the pipe frost-proof or make it drainable – more on this in the project garden water line. The composite pipe does not belong permanently in daylight; outdoors and at windows it is covered or laid in conduit. 70 °C and 10 bar apply (manufacturer information).
When another route is better
For long straight runs with many fixings, a press system or metal pipe can be more economical – fewer fittings, different pipe prices. The cost comparison calculator works it out with your figures.
