Push-fit systems · GF iFIT · Project

I want to connect an additional tap – how does that work with a push-fit system?

This is how it works with GF iFIT: at an accessible point of the existing pipe you branch off with a tee module, bridge the run to the new draw-off point with d16 pipe, and at the destination there is a tap connection module or a transition module with ½ female thread for the angle valve or draw-off valve. Every joint: chamfer, calibrate, push, check – without a press tool, without a flame.

The project in one picture

Three points determine the plan: where you branch off (an accessible point of the cold and, if applicable, hot water pipe – basement, ducts, pre-wall), how the pipe runs (every change of direction an elbow module or a hand bend within the permissible radius) and how it ends (wall plate for the tap or transition module with thread). If the existing pipe is not iFIT pipe, a transition goes at the start – which one is explained on transitions to other systems.

The steps

  1. Shut off the water and drain the pipe – at the pipe’s shut-off valve or at the house connection.
  2. Prepare the branch point: cut the existing pipe at the branch point and prepare both ends for the tee module – chamfer and calibrate iFIT pipe, fit the matching transition on existing pipe.
  3. Push on the tee module: adapters onto both pipe ends up to the stop (inspection window filled), push the tee module on until it clicks.
  4. Lay the run: cut d16 pipe to length, one elbow module per change of direction or a hand bend within the permissible radius; pipe in conduit where it will later be inaccessible.
  5. Set the end point: fix and push on the tap connection module (wall plate) – or a transition module with ½ female thread for angle valve or draw-off valve.
  6. Pull-back test at every joint – up to 5 mm of slide is permissible according to GF.
  7. Leak test before closing wall or pre-wall – fill, vent, test, record.

Every action in detail, with pictures and typical faults: step-by-step installation.

What you need

The rule of thumb: one tee module for the branch, one elbow module per change of direction, pipe length equals run plus 10 % reserve, one transition module per connection to the existing installation – and one adapter for every push point. With the first order the tool set is added: according to the manufacturer, pipe shears and chamfering/calibrating tool belong to every first order – we include them in the enquiry if you do not have them yet.

The exact list with items and availability is worked out by the parts-list tool – enter the dimensions, check the list, send it straight away as an enquiry.

The limits of this project

Cold and hot drinking water up to 70 °C and 10 bar (manufacturer information). The branch belongs at an accessible point, and before closing comes the leak test. The generally recognised rules of technology apply to drinking-water installation – the test values are specified by the planner.

When another route is better

If you branch off a metal pipe without a usable thread, a press transition of the existing system is often the shorter route – one fitting fewer, one sealing point fewer. The overview of the routes: transitions to other systems; the comparison of the methods is on methods compared.

Parts for this project from stock

Send us the parts list from the tool or tell us run and connections – we put together tee module, pipe, adapters and tool set, also individually packed.
